Prevent adding entry to package.json file

Hello, I run ngi to install a packed tarball file. It works fine, but it writes the "file:etc/etc/etc.tgz" entry to the package.json dependencies.

I use it very plainly via a bash script:

ngi my/tar/ball/file.tgz

I would very much like to prevent any modifications to the package.json, or at least, make sure the entry is removed after the install.

None of the switches (--skip-module etc) seem to prevent it (predictably enough, but I tried anyway).

Hello @tcoz, I think you are looking for the --no-save flag that npm install has? I could provide support for this flag and propagate it to the underlying npm call.

Yes that'd do it nicely I think.

If you're curious as to the use case, I'm using a bash script to do the initial npm install (which installs everything including ngi), then pull a git branch, build and pack the tgz, install it via ngi, then removing the tmp directory. Since the entry gets written to the package.json, the next time it runs, because the file no longer exists (the .tmp directory was removed) it borks.

I'm doing it now with a sed d bash command (finding and deleting the line in package.json), but that makes me nervous, better to not touch that file, not to mention the entry in the lock file.
