Version: 3.0 Date: September 30, 2025 Target: Scalable architecture from personal workstations (24GB RAM) to production servers (64GB+ RAM) Data Source: Polygon.io S3 Flat Files
Important Note: Before using Polygon APIs, always check the official documentation:
- Library Interface Documentation: https://polygon.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Library-Interface-Documentation.html
- Getting Started Guide and sub-pages: https://polygon.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Getting-Started.html
Tech Dependencies:
qlib: Quantitative investment framework for data processing and MLpolygon: Official Polygon.io Python client for API accessuv: Fast Python package installer and virtual environment manager (required)
This architecture provides a unified data pipeline for processing financial market data from Polygon.io S3 flat files, supporting deployment scenarios from personal workstations to production clusters. The design emphasizes:
- Adaptive resource management that scales from 24GB workstations to 100GB+ servers
- Two-stage processing with Parquet data lake for analytics and binary format for ML
- Streaming architecture for memory-constrained environments
- Parallel processing for high-throughput servers
- 70% storage compression with sub-second query latency
- Query Performance: Sub-second queries for single-symbol time ranges via a partitioned data lake
- Storage Efficiency: Achieve 70-80% compression vs raw CSV through optimized Parquet and binary formats
- Scalability: Support 100K+ symbols and 10M+ options contracts, scaling to 100+ TB of data
- Memory Efficiency & Resource Awareness: Operate within defined memory limits with no memory leaks or crashes
- Incremental Processing: Process only new data using watermarks, never recomputing existing datasets
- Configurable Parallelism: Saturate available CPU cores on servers while gracefully limiting concurrency on workstations

| Apple Silicon | M1/M2/M3 | +50% faster | +50% faster | +2-3x faster | +40% faster |
When deploying, enable these optimizations in order:
- Basic: Enable Apple Silicon optimizations
- I/O: Configure async S3 downloads
- Memory: Deploy advanced memory monitor
- Processing: Switch from pandas to Polars
- Storage: Optimize Parquet write settings
- Database: Configure DuckDB with advanced settings
- System: Enable macOS file I/O hints
- Monitoring: Add performance profiling
Expected Overall Improvement: 3-5x faster throughput, 30% less memory usage
This unified architecture provides:
- Adaptive Processing: Automatically adjusts to available resources (24GB workstation to 100GB+ servers)
- Three Processing Modes: Streaming (low memory), Batch (medium), Parallel (high performance)
- 70%+ Storage Compression: Through optimized Parquet and binary formats
- Sub-second Queries: Via partitioned data lake with predicate pushdown
- Incremental Updates: Process only new data using watermarks
- Production Ready: With monitoring, alerting, and deployment options
- Workstation: 24GB RAM, processes 100K records/sec in streaming mode
- Server: 64GB+ RAM, processes 500K records/sec with full parallelization
- Cluster: Horizontal scaling to 100+ TB with distributed processing
- Memory Safe: Never exceeds configured limits, graceful degradation
- CPU Optimized: Adaptive parallelism based on available cores
- Storage Efficient: 70% compression with fast random access
- Network Aware: Configurable concurrent downloads and retries
The architecture seamlessly scales from personal workstations to production clusters while maintaining data integrity, query performance, and operational simplicity.
