FAQ

How do I register for a certification ?

You need sign up on https://examregistration.github.com and shedule an exam.

How does it cost ?

Right now, the price is 200$ per certification.

Can I get one for free ?

I don't know. Ask GitHub. All Microsoft employees can get it for free if they schedule an exam with their professional email.

Do I need any prerequisites to pass a certification ?

No but be prepared, they are not that easy.

What is the format of the exam ?

A MSQ (Multi Choice Question) test. Sometimes there is only one answer and whenever they are several choices, they say how many choices you need to check.

When do I get the results ?

Just at the end of the exam. You will see a detailled score and you'll receive a confirmation by email few hours later.

Will I get a diploma ?

No! At least not yet. Currently you don't get anything, no certification, no diploma, no badge on Credly, nothing. It is in GitHub's roadmap but they don't have any ETA. Be ready not to have any proof on your success except a simple email for the moment. You won't be able to brag on social networks :)

What to do if you fail an exam

If you fail a certification exam, you can retake it. There is a 21-day waiting period between retakes in order to maintain the integrity of the exam.

Your score report will indicate the content areas that are strengths or weaknesses. Prioritize the skills that you should practice by focusing on the content areas where your exam performance was the weakest. Additionally, you may want to review the resources provided on the exam details page. GitHub does not share information about specific questions that were not answered correctly.

When you are ready to retake the exam, schedule an appointment as you normally would. You must pay for each exam you retake and follow the exam retake policy.

What is the passing score ?

I'm not sure as is may change depending on the certification. In my case, I got 73 questions for GitHub Actions, but the final score said: "Passing score 35, you have 55/60". For administration, I got 66 questions and the passing score was 36/60 and for security, I got 73 questions and the passing score was 40/60.
