should be GNU General Public License (GPL) (because it is only distributed under FreeSurfer)

Not sure if this is correct. Based on the release notes for stable v5.1.0, they have a new license: https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki/FreeSurferSoftwareLicense (according to the release notes a 'BSD-like' license).
