there is probably not enough information yet to identify the exact cause of the crash. Could you please provide a few more details so that the problem can be narrowed down?

1. Which PupilEXT version/branch are you using?

   • v0.1.1 beta from the release page?
   • Experimental-Community-Version / v0.1.2?
   • Or a build from source?

2. Which operating system are you using?

   • Windows / macOS / Linux, including the exact version.

3. Which Basler Pylon version is installed?
   PupilEXT requires the Basler Pylon installation even for offline analysis, because the Basler drivers/libraries are part of the application startup. Please also check whether Pylon was installed with the C++ runtime/SDK components.

4. Does PupilEXT also crash with the official demo datasets from the README?
   This would help to distinguish between an installation/software issue and a problem with the format of your own offline image folder.

5. Could you describe the folder structure of the offline data?
   For a single-camera recording, the selected folder should contain the image files directly.
   For stereo data, PupilEXT expects subfolders named 0 and 1, and both should contain corresponding image files. Please also make sure there are no extra non-image files in the selected folder.

6. Please also check the filenames.
   The README notes that filenames such as 1.png, 2.png, 10.png can lead to ordering problems. It is safer to use names such as 001.png, 002.png, 003.png or timestamp-based filenames.

7. Which pupil detection algorithm did you select?
   As a first test, I would try PuRe or PuReST with default/preset parameters. If you are on macOS, please avoid ExCuSe for now, because there is already a known issue where PupilEXT crashes when selecting ExCuSe on macOS (PupilEXT crashes when using ExCuSe algorithm on macOS #38).

8. At which exact step does the crash happen?

   • when selecting File -> Open Images Directory?
   • when pressing play?
   • when the first image is displayed?
   • when starting pupil detection?
   • when changing the detection algorithm?
   • when exporting/writing data?

If possible, please start PupilEXT from a terminal/console and attach the console output or the operating system crash message. A screenshot of the selected folder structure would also help.
