If a new diagnostic is required, who should be approached to ask if it can be included, how long would this process take? |

The idea of having a new diagnostic in the REF is promising, but if it is not yet in the diagnostic tools (e.g. ESMValTool), it first needs to be implemented there. That is not something the tool providers can necessarily do themselves, it requires the person who wants the diagnostic to spend time on implementing into the tool. In future [with REF Governance in place] it would need to be fast-tracked to be implemented in the REF as important for the IPCC, but this process could be one the order of months, not weeks. If relevant to the CMIP7 AFT now, it could be fast-tracked via the CMIP Panel, as the REF governance is not yet in place. It would require contribution on the part of the chapter scientists for development, and also resources for the integration of the diagnostic. If you have a diagnostic now, that you want to see in the AFT version of the REF, open a Github issue asap here: https://github.com/Climate-REF/climate-ref/issues the REF delivery team can have a look into it and the progress can be tracked there. |
