The major MATE support issue is the Debian+Ubuntu MATE Team is lagging behind a lot in tracking the upstream MATE release. There are still a lot of packages stuck in 1.26.x as of Feb 2026 whereas MATE released 1.28 in 2024. https://tracker.debian.org/teams/debianubuntu-mate-team/ In theory Linux Mint can go the extra mile and package new MATE releases. But such extra workload doesn't smell right. Previously, Linux Mint achieved MATE / Xfce upgrade in "minor" releases by backporting packages from non-LTS Ubuntu MATE and Xubuntu. |

There is no such thing as LXQt with some GTK. Having both GTK and Qt apps preinstalled is very weird. One should be chosen. |
