That would greatly relax the security of the system for logging in, executing “sudo” commands, etc.

In situations where only you or your family have physical access to the PC, unlocking the screen saver with a PIN seems to me to be an acceptable low risk.

Although you can enable screen saver unlocking with a PIN as explained in the tutorial, it can certainly be done graphically and easily for all Cinnamon users.
