Screen brightness OSD graphical feedback

For years OSDs was showing numbers. Some time ago the OSD for brightness and sound volume were changed to purely symbolic. Now, when you cross certain thresholds the sound volume icon gays-out sound waves, but brightness has nothing of the kind. Working on a laptop, I would appreciate some feedback on when I cross 50% brightness, because keeping screen brightness below 50% increases the battery life. Maybe the sun icon could gray-out its quarters at 25%, 50%, 75% of brightness setting?
