Embedded .py to .mpy possible ? (mpy-cross on the chip)

This is also discussed in #4187 - although some references may be outdated by now.

It is technically possible and not that difficult to add, but given how uncommon this need is there's no provision in embedded ports to achieve this. The footprint taken by this feature is probably better used for something else.

If you really need it (and I wonder why :)), it shouldn't be too hard to add, check mpy-cross/main.c to see how it can be done.

Context : host tablet android , only usb serial link , only text file transfert , big scripts.

It's a shame that good ideas don't come to fruition. Perhaps Chatgpt?

In that case, Viper IDE is probably what you're looking for :)

It should compile scripts into MPY files (at least there are references to a WASM-compiled version of mpy-cross in the source code). If you're more of a Termux/Terminal person, then MicroPython and mpy-cross run just fine on command line Android evnironments (there have been some patches to make it possible).

in 2022 Viper-ide was OK but now it is KO for me. I don't know why...
Micropython unix port in termux is OK but USB need root ... (tried with socat and TCP USB bridge but bad reliability)
