Disable PyPI as source

Given:

The latest Poetry will print:

Warning: In a future version of Poetry, PyPI will be disabled automatically if at least one custom source is configured with another priority than 'explicit'. In order to avoid a breaking change and make your pyproject.toml forward compatible, add PyPI explicitly via 'poetry source add pypi'. By the way, this has the advantage that you can set the priority of PyPI as with any other source.

Can I disable the warning or disable PyPI today? 🤔 I'm happy to do so.

Adding one source with priority = "default" will disable PyPI today.

I'm a little confused by this warning. I just noticed it for the first time today. I currently use both PyPI and an internal repository for most of my projects. I don't specify a priority for my internal repository and I am seeing the above warning now. Does that mean that if I do nothing, then in the future I won't be able to fetch any packages from PyPI unless I add PyPI as a source or set my internal repository to explicit?

That's exactly what the warning tells you. If you set your internal repository to explicit, this will have other implications, see the documentation about explicit package sources. That's why the warning suggests to add PyPI via poetry source add pypi.

By the way, no priority is the same as priority = "primary".

What's the difference between setting pypi source as a default or as a primary?

For me pypi is still main source for packages.

If there are no other primary sources, there is no difference. If there are other primary sources the order of primary sources is relevant. In case of PyPI, setting it as default is the same as first primary (if there is no other default source).

By the way, the mid-term target is to deprecate default but to do that we first have to make the warning from https://github.com/orgs/python-poetry/discussions/8013#discussion-5233029 become true. As soon as this warning becomes true, default is nothing else than first primary.

Is there a way to disable the warning?

We currently have only one primary source configured, which is not PyPI, and that is intentional; having the warning come up is confusing to our engineers (because it's warning us about the current configuration, which is correct) and it seems to come up only occasionally, which makes our test runs non-idempotent.
