Orgzly Revived

Hi all. As of mid-2025, this project has not had any updates in several years. Hopefully the primary developer is in good health and is just taking a break.

Users are still posting many issues here. That indicates many people are likely unaware of an actively maintained fork, Orgzly Revived. It is available here:

Orgzly Revived is also currently available on F-Droid:

I have no affiliation with either the original Orgzly or Orgzly Revived, but I do appreciate the efforts of all involved with both projects.

It seems @nevenz is back! Glad to hear they are well!

Maybe I missed it. @nevenz, @amberin, @alensiljak, @colonelpanic8 et all., is there a discussion about how to proceed with the orgzly-revived fork vs. the original orgzly?

It was mentioned but I haven't seen any concrete information yet. Looking forward, though, if so!

Seems like the most reasonable thing to do would be to merge whatever is in the community fork back in to master here. with some appropriate updates (like removing the name changes etc.)

There has been no contact that I'm aware of. It's a bit tricky since our fork has no actual governance, only a very loose GitHub organization, so who has the right to speak for Orgzly Revived?

I'm happy to see signs of life from @nevenz. They seem to be planning some major redesigns which look really exciting.

Apart from that, I personally have no strong feelings either way. I will wait and see what happens. If @nevenz remains active and seems keen on accepting contributions, I will probably suggest merging stuff there and killing Revived. Otherwise, I don't know. Revived has built up some nice contributor momentum at this point, which would be a shame to throw away if there is less activity in the original repo. The Revived community has been able to implement many of the most wished-for features fairly quickly.

I see Orgzly as a one-person project with occasional accepted contributions, while Revived is a bit more collaborative. Governance/ownership is a challenge for Revived, whereas "dictatorship" has its advantages. On the other hand, I think the three years of sudden silence in the original repo has shown us the risks.

Thankfully, the license permits both apps to co-exist and share improvements, so there's no real rush here. But of course it's not desirable in the long run to split the user base between two competing apps.
