The problem appears when doing 2x2 (or larger blocks): one latch per side is not enough to hold the top.
My suggestion is to modify the parametric design to add extra latches per block length. A 2x1 block would have 1 latch per short side and 2 per long side; a 2x2 block would have 2 latches per side, etc.
