Unable to install cryptography in requirements.txt

When setting up my virtual environment, I got the error

build/temp.macosx-15.2-arm64-cpython-38/_openssl.c:579:10: fatal error: 'openssl/opensslv.h' file not found 579 | #include <openssl/opensslv.h> | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 error generated. error: command '/usr/bin/clang' failed with exit code 1 [end of output]

Currently on an M1 MacBook, MacOS Sequoia 15.2, tried updating pip version but it didn't work. tried installing openssl@1.1 via brew but it's been disabled since 2024.

Iam facing the same challenge on macos 15.5. is there anyone to resolve this issue. or is there a work around one can recommend. it seems cryptography as a package is the root cause of this. probably its outdated. any help would be greatly welcome.
