Version Check

Most Common

cat /etc/os-release

Sample Output:

NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="22.04.4 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)"
ID=ubuntu
...

For Ubuntu/Debian

lsb_release -a

Sample Output:

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
Release:	24.04
Codename:	noble

If you get lsb_release: command not found, you can install it using:

sudo apt install lsb-release

Kernel version (not OS, but still useful)

uname -a

Example Output:

Linux my-host 5.15.0-91-generic #101-Ubuntu SMP ... x86_64 GNU/Linux
