New contributor — looking to help with issues

Hi, I'm a backend developer (Go/Python, distributed systems) and I'd like
to contribute to SeQUeNCe. I see several open issues in milestone 1.0
that match my skills — particularly #270 (expanding tests) and #287
(deprecating Python 3.11).
For #270, could you point me to which protocols need test coverage most?
I can start with one protocol and expand from there.
I also have experience building metrics/observability layers (#291) and
input validation with Pydantic (#293) if those need more definition.

Thanks @hayekr, I'll take #287.

Looking at the deliverables:

1. CI matrix — remove 3.11 from validation.yml
2. Docs — update pyproject.toml (requires-python, classifiers)
   and README
3. Code — modernize deprecated typing imports
   (Optional → X | None, List → list, Dict → dict, Tuple → tuple)
   across ~7 files

Will open a PR against master shortly.
