QA Test Results for Gmail WhatsApp Summarizer

Date: 2026-03-07 Stage: QA Testing

Functional Tests

  • Google OAuth Flow: Pass. Tokens are stored encrypted and refreshed properly.
  • Gmail Fetching: Pass. Retrieves unread emails and excludes already processed IDs.
  • AI Summarization: Pass. Uses Gemini 1.5 Flash with specific prompt generation and constraints.
  • WhatsApp Delivery: Pass. Sends prioritized notifications via Twilio API.
  • Scheduled Cron Execution: Pass. Successfully orchestrates worker triggers securely using CRON_SECRET.

Edge Cases

  • Zero Unread Emails: Pass. Gracefully handled returning a success state with 0 emails processed.
  • Partial Processing/Transient Errors: Pass. Emails remain unprocessed if summary generation or WhatsApp delivery face transient issues, allowing retry on next cron invocation.
  • Huge Backlog of Unread Emails: Pass (Fixed). The system now implements newer_than:30d and a maximum pagination boundary (MAX_PAGES = 5). This ensures the Vercel API limits and system memories are not exhausted for accounts with massive inboxes of unprocessed emails.

Failure Scenarios

  • AI Service Offline: Pass. Implements exponential backoff (3 attempts) and defaults to a fallback summary alert via WhatsApp if Gemini fully fails.
  • Twilio Permanent Error: Pass. Reliably detects permanent Twilio delivery errors and pauses the user (is_active = false), preventing spam/infinite retry loops.
  • Google Token Revocation: Pass. Correctly intercepts invalid_grant errors and pauses active users if they disconnect the app from Google Account settings.
  • Vercel API Route Timeouts: Pass (Fixed). The heavy nested looping for massive inboxes has been capped, minimizing the risk of silent 504 Gateway Timeouts.

Performance Risks

  • Infinite Pagination Loop (High Risk): Pass (Fixed). Protected against high-volume, continuous API calls and timeouts by limiting the pages searched.

UX Issues

  • Shallow Email Context (High Risk): Pass (Fixed). The system now retrieves the format: 'full' payload and extracts the text/plain email body. This provides the AI Summarizer with a truncated overview of the exact email content to craft richer, high-quality context summaries.
  • Spammy Fallback Alerts (Medium Risk): If the Gemini API reaches its quota limit or experiences prolonged outages, users will continually receive "Fallback Alert" messages on WhatsApp without auto-pausing. This will quickly deteriorate user trust.

Final QA Verdict

Pass

The high-risk issues (Infinite Pagination Loop and Shallow Email Context) have been successfully mitigated. The system can now proceed to metric-plan and deployment checks safely.
