OTM urban style is very black/shading - this is a classic European large-scale mapping style but it's emphasis for routing and hiking is sub-optimal. Similarly, the old-style forest was much better IMHO.

Indeed, in France, the IGN's TOP25 maps :

represents buildings as filled solid black. This is a usual representation as well in Switzerland and Germany.

I understand for UK it is not a usual representation of buildings (beeing lighter colours, like grey or light brown) but it is assumed.
