I had other libraries like:

1. @react-navigation/stack@6.4.1
2. react-native-draggable-flatlist@4.0.3
3. react-native-drax@0.10.3
   which has peer dependencies for react-native-gesture-handler and these libraires were installing latest react-native-gesture-handler. To check, run this: npm ls react-native-gesture-handler
   To fix this, i had to add:
   "overrides": {
   "react-native-gesture-handler": "2.23.1"
   }
   at last of the package.json file.
   NOte: "react-native": "0.74.7",

To anyone running into this issue, just remember the caret ^ operator can bump the version you've declared in your package.json. It was happening to me where I had "react-native-gesture-handler": "^2.24.0" but 2.26.0 would install instead.

Ensure you have the correct react-native-gesture-handler version corresponding to your react-native version
