To be able to use this container to meet our security requirements we would require the ability to run the container with read-only root file system. We would want to be able to have any paths that require write file access to be able to be separate volumes.

have you tried running the container with the root file system read-only?

From a application pov, I think the only thing we need as read/write is the /data mount
