stereocode: command not found

I have installed stereocode according to the instructions in INSTALL.md on Ubuntu 14.04.
sudo easy_install .
Installing stereocode.py script to /usr/local/bin

Installed /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/stereocode-1.0-py2.7.egg
Processing dependencies for stereocode==1.0
Finished processing dependencies for stereocode==1.0

However, when I attempt to run any command, such as:
stereocode -h
I get the following result:
stereocode: command not found

The program is stereocode.py.
