The actions/checkout Action will checkout your repository in a detached state when used using the scheduler trigger and when no branch or ref is provided.

Explicitly setting the ref should fix this issue.

@nat-ray At first glance I can't see a glaring problem. You checkout the repo to a specific branch using ref in actions/checkout, you don't set a branch in git-auto-commit; but the repo still ends up in a detached state.

Hm. The only non-standard thing is your runner: self-hosted. But that can't really make any difference, can it?

Do the logs the actions/checkout-step mention anything about "detached" state?

@nat-ray Could you maybe add these to options to your script?
skip_checkout skips the internal git-checkout call and branch hardcodes the remote target branch.

I think this was a problem with the PAT used in the checkout step. It might have expired. I created a new one with the appropriate permissions and re-ran the job without changing anything else, and it is working now.
