I had limited success with an Ubuntu server ISO. I had managed to patch it, but post installation system was not working properly.

And what's not a great thing here. You can simply install using a normal ISO and post installation you can add T2 kernel.

I have a .deb of the wifi adapter in the USB, can I use that one which works correctly in normal ubuntu instead of using ethernet cable?

The goal is the get internet working. You can use any way.

If you are using linux-t2, then no. The kernel is newer than stock kernel so it will boot automatically.

You will get separate linux kernel package which can co exist with stock kernel.
