TE is based on a web browser. WebView2 extension switches TE from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge. Starting from TE version 25.4.1, this extension becomes default.
Advantages:
- Autofill is available to certain input text boxes.
- Certain elements look similarly to those on Edge.
-
Preview and Preview window add-ons:
- can show PDF.
- can show animation, instead of still, for certain animated image types such as APNG.
- Latest JavaScript and CSS syntax are available for scripting and User style sheet add-on.
Disadvantages:
- TE often crashes as reported by some users.
- For each add-on that has default settings, you must open its Options page once to accept the defaults after you have enabled it. So is a fresh installation of TE. See AO-392.
- Some portions of TE and add-ons cannot refresh display timely.
- Hot keys (scope "All") do not work in the HTML part of TE window, i.e. input bars.
- Mouse gestures (scope "All") do not work in the HTML part of TE window, e.g. tab bars.
- It consumes extra memory.
