There are some issues about bugs and PRs, and also one PR to prepare for the next release in April, but since then there's no activity on the author Github. Is this project alive, or should be do a fork?

I think this project is not alive.

A Last maintainer's PR in this repository (to prepare for the next release) created in last year.
However, he was active in other repository in this year as far as I can look at his contribution activity on his Github profile page.
