Steps to reproduce

Thunderbird 18.0 for Android keeps crashing silently. There doesn't appear to be any specific trigger; periodically, the app just disappears off screen. Since it doesn't seem to be related to a specific user action, I wonder whether a background process (such as server syncing) might be causing it. My device is a Samsung Tab A-9.

I will add that this also occurs on my Samsung Galaxy S23-- to the extent that android is reporting to me that this app is crashing frequently, do I want to Disable it? (Maybe I should?)

The phone is also android 16 with Thunderbird for Android 18.0

Without steps to recreate this might be hard to figure out. Is it a Samsung Galaxy S23 or another variation, such as Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 FE, etc?

As I mentioned in the original report, there aren't any noticeable triggers. I am running TB and doing basic email activity-- and at random points (i.e., not as a result of clicking anything or doing any particular action) the app just disappears. This is happening regularly on both the Tab A9 and S23 (just a plain old S23, although why the flavor of Samsung S23 would matter is not clear to me).

The specific model might be useful as we're able to filter crash reports based on model. But again without a noticeable trigger it's going to be hard to narrow down on. If you come across a noticeable trigger please let us know.

I am increasingly suspecting that this has to do with background syncing. While there are no immediate direct crashes, it does seem that the crashes do happen shortly after I delete one or more messages on one of my devices.

I am thinking that when messages get deleted on one device, there is some issue with one of the other devices processing the action that causes the app on the first device to crash. In other words, I am on my phone, delete some messages, the tablet receives an alert that the mailbox has changed, begins a refresh, and then the first device gets confused.

For further data, I am using Thunderbird for Android 18.0 on the two devices noted here as well as Thunderbird for Windows (don't know the version offhand) on Windows 11. I have 5 different email accounts set up on each device (one yahoo, one gmail, and three from a different provider).
