Steps to reproduce

1. use Desktop-PC: Linux, i.e. openSUSE Leap 16.0
2. use MozTb 140.10.0esr (64-Bit) (recent pool version for OS mentioned)
3. permanent set-up: compose AND send plain text only e-mails, use Monospace fonts
4. compose new message
5. use function enumeration/list
6. paste lorem ipsum there
7. send/receive
8. view in MozTb (Linux) as well as in Thunderbird for Android and compare against each other

Expected behavior

display of Thunderbird for Android should look very similar to MozTb (Linux), which actually does look good

Actual behavior

text display is broken, maybe wrong line wrapping?

when I chose "print" in Android for Thunderbird, it (then again) looks good!

further testing, another update:

usually, I use my smartphone in Portrait mode. I now explicitly switched to Landscape mode: it does now look good!

Some update after some further testing…

given

• desktop-PC with openSUSE Leap 16.0 and 140.11.0esr (64-Bit) (recent pool version)
• there: edit and send AND view e-mails as plain text, using Monospace font
• there: mail.wrap_long_lines=true, mailnews.wraplength=72, plain_text.wrap_long_lines=true (default values each)
• Google Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS (Android 16, Build Number 2026061601) and Thunderbird for Android 19.2 (F-Droid)

steps

• I composed the messages attached as screenshots with the function "list/enumeration".
• I didn't use hard breaks or manual wraps or such.
• So, I used "continuous" text within the paragraphs each

Now, please, compare. The screenshots are rather self-explaining…

• if it is a bug in Thunderbird for Android, please consider fixing it
• if it is related to Thunderbird (desktop), please tell and let FWD there
• if it is just as it, please tell and I will close the ticket

Debugging from screenshots is just guessing. If you want to give the developers a chance to figure out what's going on, attach the source of such a message.

My guess is you need to set mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed to true in your Thunderbird on desktop installation.
