Agent approval mode not allowed to edit files

What issue are you seeing?

I have approvals mode set to Agent which should allow file modification, however when nori needs to modify a file it always asks permission (and does not offer an option to approve this AND future edits)

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Start a task that entails file modifications within the workspace while in Agent mode. Notice that all file modification tasks require approval.

What is the expected behavior?

I expect either that file edits in the workspace are allowed or that an option is offered to allow them.

"Agent" approvals defer to the ACP agent about which requests to escalate to the user. In the case of the Claude agent, I believe that approves automatically for whitelisted commands in the settings json files, and then asks the user for all other shell commands, as well as asks for the first handful of file edits. After several file edits, that approval mode stops asking for permission to patch and will only ask for shell commands. This is the default option built into the Claude ACP adapter.

You bring up a really good point; what I described above isn't obvious at all from the slash command!

I think I would make more sense to add several additional options. Would this handle your preferences better?

Approvals:

• agent decides (default)
• allow edits (pre-approved in current directory tree)
• read only (ask for everything)
• full access (approve everything, gated with a warning)

it sounds like "allow edits" would be what you want.

That is what I want! I'm still not sure I understand the mismatch between Claude Code behavior and Nori behavior, but that seems like a separate issue. Once you all get around to documentation I would make sure you clarify the relationship between Nori and the underlying agents (or maybe this is already documented somewhere and I've missed it).
