iOS: adjusting the speech rate requires too many taps

Unless I'm missing something, to adjust the speech rate of a playing book on the fly, the user has to:

1. Press "More Options";
2. move to and press "Settings";
3. move to "Speech Rate" which is near the bottom;
4. adjust it (which only modifies the current playback after the current sentence has ended); and
5. back out of the settings screen.

It would be handy to have an adjustable speech rate control right on the playback screen, and for changes to apply more or less immediately.
