I have had a serious think about this, and I've decided that the work I do is not just for me, but lots of people. It take a lot of time to maintain this site, and the hosting costs money.

I dont want to not be able to have this info pulled from the internet because I cant afford the hosting, so this is my attempt to get some money back and reinvest it in to this site

Any estimates on how much this would claw back to hosting costs?

Hello old fruit! Long time!

Hosting this site costs around £5 per month because it's on servers in;

  • UK (London)
  • Americas (Virginia, Ontario, Colorado)
  • Australia
  • NZ

This means the site is fast to load for these users.

Plus then hosting breadnet.co.uk too, comes to around £12 all in all.

I've seen Ethical ads before on a few sites, and I dislike adverts a lot due to the tracking nature, but it appears that ethical ads does it based on the content on the page - not where you've been on the internet.

An example of a site with these ads is from the UIS of Cmabridge: https://docs.raven.cam.ac.uk/en/latest/

As it's going to be technical users accessing my site, it makes sense to use technical ads.

The idea is any additional money that the ads provide, they will go to sponsoring FOSS software. I don't do this for the money. I just want to cover the hosting cost

And again, I've nothing to hide so this PR does directly go against the below

This is a personal project, I don't have adverts on this site and any of my other sites, and it costs me money and time to build and run this.

If there was a better way to cover the hosting costs, then I would do it. However there's not a market for skinny nerds on the ol razzle dazzle platform...
