React StrictMode: Error after upgrading can't access property "maxTextureDimension2D", this.device.limits is undefined

I was using deck.gl in my react application and I have upgraded to 9.2.2. After upgrading, this error is shown.
Error after upgrading can't access property "maxTextureDimension2D", this.device.limits is undefined

Not sure how can i solve it.

same... I've just copied the reverse example from here
this is the stack:

I think this line is causing a problem, because deviceProps are not provided,

This works for me, save this to index.html and then open index.html or load it in the browser in some other way. It looks like the script version needs to wait for the page to be loaded, so I added that.

I have the same issue after moving from 9.1.9 to 9.2.2

I have the same issue. I can't go back to previous version since I have used widgets from the new version. Is there a solution available?

I had this issue also in my React app. What fixed it for me was removing the React.StrictMode tags in my app.jsx page. Hopefully that helps the maintainers debug this.

The double initialization from StrictMode probably causes the device to be invalid somehow.

We are using NextJs 15, disabling reactStrictMode in next.config.ts also makes the error go away.

I will also note I tested the same code in TanstackStart React and got the error there too

I do not get the error with the html ibgreen posted, so it might be a React specific issue?

I tried to remove the reactStrictMode for the Deck component and keep it only in other components, but it still does not work

This doesn't seem to affect functionality.

The solution proposed by @fcrisafulli-dev of disabling reactStrictMode resolves the error.

Update your next.config.ts:

I had issues in my project using deck.gl:

• my version using 9.1.x was always working fine
• I tried to bump deck.gl to version 9.2.2, but I never got it to work due to texture errors (as far as I remember, at runtime I got an error claiming the the texture buffer did not match the texture size; I double, triple checked, and it was a false error)
• some time later, I tried to bump directly to version 9.2.5, without any code change compared to my tentative to use 9.2.2, and the error was solved.

Note: I do not use strict mode, so it's unrelated to it. But it highlight that there was some instability in texture area for a while :/

Try bumping to 9.3.0-beta.2. I know @ ibgreen was doing a bit of work to fix the StrictMode issues and those may be landing out of beta in the next few days
