Rerun doesn't skip setup+import?

When I run vitest via CLI I see a lot of time waisted on setup + import:

Duration 8.36s (transform 0ms, setup 982ms, import 5.09s, tests 1.56s, environment 0ms)

Reruns are thankfully way faster. When I start a test via the test gutter icon it seems to always report RERUN rerun test x1. While it says "rerun" the counter also never goes up and it seems setup + import are always executed.

Continuous runs don't seem to help. Is that gutter icon killing the background process? How can I speed up the execution?

You should use Continuous Run if you want to keep the process running: https://github.com/vitest-dev/vscode#how-to-rerun-tests-when-file-is-changed

You can enable vitest.watchOnStartup if you want to have it enabled by default, but it might make your PR slower and will lock node_modules folder

I actually tried that, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I can check again tomorrow.

FYI @sheremet-va , I tried it again, but it doesn't work. I turn on Continuous Run on a specific file. Then I execute a single test (either from the test explorer or the gutter icon) and it always shows RERUN rerun test x1 (it never goes up to 2x) and includes the setup+import tax.

In my mental I'd have thought this works more like vitest watch --standalone, but this doesn't see to be the case?

You turn the continuous run and just edit the file. The run button always runs the test in a separate process to make sure global setups are initialized correctly.

Okay, than my mental model was not correct. It would be awesome, if this could be configured. E.g. when debugging a flaky test I don't necessarily edit files.
