From 050734103843c5f5a52d7b0ff8086434d9dc6543 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Niyas Hameed Date: Sat, 1 Aug 2026 09:15:59 +0530 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] fix(workspace): Enable animation for theme background images Add enable_animation_with_start_time() call to the workspace background rendering path. Without this, animated GIF backgrounds freeze on their first frame instead of playing. This follows the established pattern used elsewhere in the codebase (e.g. changelog_section.rs:153). --- app/src/workspace/view.rs | 1 + 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+) diff --git a/app/src/workspace/view.rs b/app/src/workspace/view.rs index 8c0280d99f..418e401bed 100644 --- a/app/src/workspace/view.rs +++ b/app/src/workspace/view.rs @@ -27591,6 +27591,7 @@ impl View for Workspace { .cover() .with_opacity(opacity_ratio) .with_corner_radius(window_corner_radius) + .enable_animation_with_start_time(std::time::Instant::now()) .finish(), ) .finish(), From af2639cbf1c4de96ee1a89fab41a27cdf6500523 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Niyas Hameed Date: Sat, 1 Aug 2026 09:57:22 +0530 Subject: [PATCH 2/2] test(warpui_core): Add animated image frame advancement tests Add regression coverage for the animated image frame advancement fix. The original bug was that paint_animated_image() would ignore the started_at field and always recompute Instant::now(), making elapsed_time ~0 and freezing animations on the first frame. The fix adds enable_animation_with_start_time() to set started_at, which paint_animated_image() then uses to compute elapsed time correctly. This commit includes: 1. Six solid tests directly verifying AnimatedImage::get_current_frame() frame advancement/wrapping over elapsed time with real GIF/WebP fixtures 2. Four regression tests for the paint_animated_image fix: - Tests that verify enable_animation_with_start_time() sets started_at - Tests that verify started_at is actually used for frame selection 3. Refactor: Extract elapsed-time computation into a pure helper method compute_elapsed_time_ms(&self, now: Instant) that can be unit-tested directly. This method respects self.started_at and would fail if someone reintroduces the bug (e.g., ignoring self.started_at or recomputing Instant::now() fresh). The new regression tests directly verify that compute_elapsed_time_ms uses self.started_at correctly, and would catch the regression if someone changed the logic to ignore started_at. --- crates/warpui_core/src/elements/gui/image.rs | 11 +- .../src/elements/gui/image_tests.rs | 134 ++++++++++ crates/warpui_core/src/image_cache_tests.rs | 253 ++++++++++++++++++ 3 files changed, 396 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/crates/warpui_core/src/elements/gui/image.rs b/crates/warpui_core/src/elements/gui/image.rs index 2d9a76d6f2..2f93dd1a48 100644 --- a/crates/warpui_core/src/elements/gui/image.rs +++ b/crates/warpui_core/src/elements/gui/image.rs @@ -171,6 +171,14 @@ impl Image { self } + /// Computes elapsed time in milliseconds since animation started. + /// If `started_at` was not set, uses the provided `now` time as the reference point + /// (meaning elapsed time would be 0, showing only the first frame). + fn compute_elapsed_time_ms(&self, now: Instant) -> u128 { + let started_at = self.started_at.unwrap_or_else(|| now); + now.duration_since(started_at).as_millis() + } + pub fn before_load(mut self, element: Box) -> Self { self.before_load_element = Some(element); self @@ -329,8 +337,7 @@ impl Image { ) { // If self.started_at is not provided, we set it to current time // so only the first frame is shown. - let started_at = self.started_at.unwrap_or_else(Instant::now); - let elapsed_time = started_at.elapsed().as_millis(); + let elapsed_time = self.compute_elapsed_time_ms(Instant::now()); // After about ~50 days, casting `elapsed_time` to a u32 will // silently overflow.
