Calculating population totals for Warnings, Watches, and Advisories

I’m working on a pipeline for ingesting your Watches, Warnings, and Advisories data from the NWS API. I am able to pull down the data and find the associated zone shapes, but I’m wondering how the population data shown here is sourced.

I’m currently working with LandScan population data and cross-referencing with the shapes provided by the API, but the population numbers aren’t quite the same. Is LandScan an appropriate source to pull numbers from (Sampling a 2024 tiff) or is there a different population source that is preferred?

The link you provide is developed at Central Region HQ and uploaded to the website. The population data is derived from ORNL LandScan 1km Ambient Population Dataset.
