<p><b>I am a health economist</b> and an assistant professor in the <a href="http://phs.weill.cornell.edu/divisions/hpe/" target="_blank">Division of Health Policy and Economics</a> of the <a href="http://phs.weill.cornell.edu" target="_blank">Department of Population Health Sciences</a> at the Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University. I direct the <a href="https://www.medicaidpolicyimpact.org" target="_blank">Medicaid Policy Impact Initiative</a> at Cornell and am an Associate Director of the <a href="https://publicpolicy.cornell.edu/chpc/" target="_blank">Cornell Health Policy Center</a> and the <a href="https://centerforhealthequity.cornell.edu" target="_blank">Cornell Center for Health Equity</a>.</p>
<p><b>I study Medicaid</b> and the health care safety net in the United States. Through my research, I aim to identify policy levers to address racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in health and health care.
<p><b>Recent Highlights</b>:</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="https://www.bu.edu/sph/profile/sarah-gordon/" target="_blank">Sarah Gordon</a> and I have received a grant from <a href="https://www.arnoldventures.org" target="_blank">Arnold Ventures</a> to launch the <a href="https://news.weill.cornell.edu/news/2026/04/grant-supports-efforts-to-create-atlas-of-medicaid-spending" target="_blank">Medicaid Atlas Project</a>, a public data platform that will track variation in Medicaid utilization and spending across states, plans, and populations.</li>
<li>We have <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2845459" target="_blank">new work</a> out in <i>JAMA Health Forum</i> showing that Medicaid may play a protective role in ensuring pharmacy availability.</li>
<li><a href="https://sites.google.com/site/civelekyasin" target="_blank">Yasin Civelek</a> and I have received <a href="https://nihcm.org/grantees/the-impact-of-insurance-coverage-in-adulthood-on-later-life-health-care-spending-evidence-from-the-affordable-care-acts-medicaid-expansion" target="_blank">funding</a> from the <a href="https://nihcm.org" target="_blank">National Institute for Health Care Management</a> to study how access to health insurance in adulthood affects later-life health care spending.</li>
<li>We are excited to launch the T-MSIS Analytic Files (TAF) Analysis Reporting Checklist, which is designed to guide reporting of research using the TAF, the new generation Medicaid claims data. For more, see our <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2840338" target="_blank">publication</a> in <i>JAMA Health Forum</i> or go to <a href="https://tafchecklist.org" target="_blank">tafchecklist.org</a>.</li>
