DataTables 1.11

Hi I am looking at using this in one of my projects however I have a few questions.

1. DataTables is currently on version 1.11 - how do I update to latest version
2. Is this a dead project? It hasn't been updated in 2 years
3. The document doesn't explain how to render: https://cakephp-datatables.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tables/rendering/
